How to create your ideal life

As a coach, many of my clients tell me that life isn’t quite what they had planned or hoped for.  Sometimes that is a good thing, while for most, it isn’t. They have dreams and desires, but find themselves settling for something less than what they want.

Life is way too short to be doing something that doesn’t fulfill you.

If you’re settling for something, why not try my top four steps to help you imagine and create your ideal life. The steps will help you get clear about what you really want so you can make it happen and start living your dreams instead of settling for a life that isn’t what you truly desire.

1.      Imagine your ideal life

Close your eyes and imagine you’re living your ideal life. Create an ideal scene for what you want your life to look like.

  •  What is happening in your life? Who are you with? What are you doing? Where are you living? What is your health and wellness like? What are you doing for work? Are you working? What type of person are you? … family and relationships … friends … fun stuff … contribution to others … self-image … finances … anything else that is important to you …

The second step in imagining your ideal life is to identify WHY all of this important to you. When you know the ‘why’, you’ll be more motivated to achieve it.

The third, and extremely powerful step, is to identify how you want to FEEL living your ideal life. Sure the What and Why are very important, but when you identify how you want to feel, this is the real magnet for creating miracles. The vibrational energy of what you want to attract will connect with the vibrational energy of your feelings and pow! they’ll be in your life before you know it!

2.      Write it out in words

  •  Describing what you want is a great way to get clarity.
  •  Write everything out in PRESENT tense, as if you are living your ideal life RIGHT NOW. You can write them as “I am ……..” statements.
  • Be as detailed as possible – this is helping to program yourself for attracting those elements into your life.


3.      Add pictures and sounds

A great way to bring your ideal life alive is to add images and music to represent your goals, dreams and aspirations. Pictures speak a thousand words and evoke emotions in a way that words alone can’t. Sounds are also a powerful way to create positive emotions.

You can create a vision board or book or have images placed in areas you frequent as an instant reminder of what you want in life. You can also create a playlist of empowering, success-focused songs and music.

By looking at the images and listening to your playlist for only a few minutes throughout the day can create powerful shifts toward your ideal life.

4.      Take action

Just imagining your ideal life, isn’t enough on its own – you need to take action

Set yourself compelling goals for both the short and long-term.

Break them down into bite-sized chunks and do something every day, no matter how big or small, that will move you closer to turning your vision of the future into your life of today.

As Lao Tzu says, “The journey of 1000 miles starts with a single step”.

Break your journey into single steps and you’ll be at your destination before you know it.
